How To Get A Job In Video Games: Concept Artist At Bethesda Softworks
During my research I stumbled across this video posted by Kevin Kelly which explains about how to become a concept artist and what it takes to fill that role. The post has a video of Bethesda Softworks concept artist Adam Adamowicz who tells us what jobs need to be fulfilled and that the role is like being an illustrator and story teller.
" Want to be a video game concept artist? Bethesda Softworks' Adam Adamowicz tells you all about the job the involves bringing video games to life in the very first visual stages. Part illustrator, and part storyteller, this is often one of the most important parts of development as it helps everyone involved envision what the game is going to look like.
Being a concept artist requires a lot of artistic ability, especially in the realm of fantasy, but you also need to be able to work with the game designers. Frequently, you'll be sent back to the drawing board to start from scratch all over again before you finally nail exactly what they are looking for. But, you're putting together the first look of a game, long before it hits store shelves, and you're influencing both the look and feel of the title."
whilst watching the video and reading the text above I noticed that Adam's work flow and workshop was very structured and full of reference material. Just by watching his working progress and could easily tell he was very confident with his drawing and is very experienced. You can clearly see that Adam has studies structure and human anatomy with his drawings as they are all in the right proportion.
