Distortion of the human body within games and its benifits


My essay will be titled “Distortion of the human body within games and it's benefits” which will be
written about distortion of the human body within games and I will be discussing how games use
distortion to help sell their idea and product. I will be looking at games such as “Gears of War” and
“LA noire” and comparing them to see what the differences are. I will also be researching to find if
human anatomy studies are crucial to master if you want to create a successful distorted character. I
will be studying how games have used distortion to their advantage and why they have chosen to
use distortion of the human body.
By the end of the essay I want to produce two digital paintings that show good anatomy studies and
the other which shows using distortion correctly. I will also be discussing about poor use of anatomy
distortion within the gaming world.

I will be breaking down the essay into the following key points:

• A study of why learning and understanding human anatomy is very important as a
character/concept artist and if it can effect your art and portfolio.

• A study of how the body is manipulated and distorted within the gaming industry to help sell
the product.

• Looking at a range of video games which use distortion and if that game has been
successful or not. And if older generation used distortion to its advantage as the poly count
was low.

• A comparison of two selected gaming characters which show good and bad use of human
anatomy distortion.

• A conclusion and backup of why I think that Human anatomy studies is crucial as a concept
artist.

• Two digital paintings showing strong understanding of distortion and the human anatomy.
